BriteSpark brings in C4 exec

Argonon-owned UK production outfit BriteSpark Films has brought in a commissioning editor from commercially funded pubcaster Channel 4 as its first director of programmes.

Tom Porter

Tom Porter is joining London-based BriteSpark, shortly after Argonon confirmed it was buying 100% of the company that it founded as a joint venture with former Cineflix exec Nick Godwin in 2013.

Porter will help develop and grow the business, overseeing a new slate of programming as well as bring in new commissions focused on the UK market.

He was a commissioning editor at C4 for six years, based in specialist factual, news and current affairs.

During that time his commissions included Syria Across the Lines, Hunted and Mystery of the Man on the Moor. He also had joint responsibility for the forthcoming Michael Jackson doc Leaving Neverland.

Previously Porter worked as an executive producer at Blakeway where he managed the Dispatches slate for four years, and before that as a freelance producer/director, making films for Channel 4, BBC, ITV, Sky1 and NHK at companies including Quicksilver, Brook Lapping and October Films.

Porter will take up his position from April.
