Fast-growing US unscripted outfit Asylum Entertainment Group is expanding into Canada with the opening of a Vancouver office.

Brad Bernstein, who serves as chief content officer at Asylum-owned Texas Crew Productions, is relocating to Vancouver to establish the new office and oversee its growth.

Endeavor-backed Asylum said the move will allow it to “take advantage of Canada’s production-friendly environment” and give it the opportunity to introduce its portfolio of brands to the Canadian broadcast market.

With Bernstein’s relocation to Vancouver, longtime Asylum exec James Macnab is being promoted to exec VP, reporting directly to Bernstein.

Macnab’s previous title was senior VP of content, overseeing current programming across documentaries, limited series and series.

“Our new Canadian office will provide exciting opportunities for our domestic partners and introduce the Canadian broadcast market to Asylum’s extensive portfolio of brands,” said Asylum CEO Steve Michaels.

Bernstein added: “James has been an integral part of Asylum’s success – he is both a well-respected producer and talented creative. His expertise is invaluable as we continue to manage a wide slate of programming across multiple companies.”
