Boréales Federation looks at climate emergency impact on natural habitats

The Cold Rush

The documentary-focused joint venture from French production companies Federation Entertainment and Boréales is working on a docuseries about the impact of rising global temperatures on animals and plants.

The Cold Rush comes from Boréales Federation, which was set up last year to produce premium documentaries about nature and the environment.

With many temperature records around the world shattered in 2022 and natural disasters intensifying, the documentary looks at how the climate emergency is forcing animals and plants towards cooler habitats and causing ecosystems to merge.

Boréales Federation is headed by Fred Fougea. The Cold Rush follows its first project, Mediterranean: Life Under Siege, which aired on France Télévisions earlier this year and has been sold to broadcasters and platforms in 40 countries.

“On every continent, on land, at sea, in the air, climate change is an omnipresent enemy. Its demonstrations take the shape of devastating wildfires, monstrous storms, extreme floods, repeated heat waves and lasting droughts,” the producers said.

“In this context, the series focuses on the fate of animals and plants, which must leave while there is still time. They rush towards the poles, climb mountains, sink deep into the oceans. It’s the greatest upheaval the living world has experienced for thousands of years. Species that never previously mixed must learn to live together. New ecosystems are emerging.”
