Boomerang returns to Scooby, Flintstones

New episodes of Be Cool Scooby-Doo! have been greenlit by Boomerang

Turner-owned children’s OTT service Boomerang is adding new series based on classic properties Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones to its line-up of exclusives.

Scooby-Doo & Guess Who? and Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs! are among the new shows being produced for the SVoD version of Cartoon Network’s sibling channel by Warner Bros Animation (WBA).

The orders come 12 months after the service was launched as a joint venture between Turner and Warner Bros Digital Networks Group, featuring content drawn from the extensive Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes and MGM animation libraries.

Scooby-Doo & Guess Who? will see Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo join forces with some of the biggest names in celebrity and pop culture to solve mysteries.

Celebrities set to feature include NBA’s Chris Paul, recording artist Sia, comedian Ricky Gervais, physicist Neil Degrasse Tyson and actor Mark Hamill.

Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs!, meanwhile, will follow best friends Pebbles Flintstone and Bamm-Bamm Rubble as they grow up in prehistoric times when dinosaurs and giant beasts still walked the earth. Both series are due to premiere in 2019.

Turner and WBA agreed a deal in 2015 for the latter to supply almost 450 half-hours of original programming, primarily from its huge library of classic titles, to Boomerang.

The SVoD service will also be made available in Spanish later this month, while Boomerang recently added titles to the service, including new episodes of Dorothy & the Wizard of Oz.

This marked the largest content addition to the service since its launch and means Boomerang subscribers have access to more than 2,000 titles for streaming or downloading.

Boomerang has also greenlit new episodes of series such as Be Cool Scooby-Doo!, Bunnicula, Dorothy & the Wizard of Oz, New Looney Tunes, The Tom & Jerry Show and Wacky Races from WBA.

These will sit alongside acquisitions such as The Wind in the Willows, the forthcoming animated series based on the classic novel that Boomerang acquired from HoHo Rights in the UK last year.
