Boomerang increases its UK penetration

Cartoon Network's classic toon channel Boomerang will launch on UK cable operator Telewest's digital service, in its Supreme Package from mid-July.

Telewest has over 532k subscribers to its Active Digital cable package.

Currently available on digital satellite, Boomerang is enjoying something of a ratings boom. It was the second highest rating kids' channel (amongst 4-9ers) in May 2001, beaten only by sister channel Cartoon Network.

Airing 06:00-00:00, seven days a week, the channel also achieved its highest ever reach in May, with over 1.3m kids tuning in.

Casey Harwood, Turner Broadcasting's commercial director UK & Ireland said: {The launch of Boomerang means that Telewest Active Digital will now carry all of Turner's UK channels.{

Programming highlights for Boomerang this year will include Thunderbirds, Tom & Jerry, Pink Panther, Scooby-Doo, Sylvester & Tweety, Help… It's the Hair Bear Bunch and The Flintstones.
