Boat Rocker to adapt Nikita Gill novel with Lena Headey prodco Peephole

Lena Headey in Game of Thrones

Canada-headquartered Boat Rocker and actor Lena Headey’s Peephole Productions are in development on a TV adaptation of Nikita Gill’s The Girl & the Goddess.

The scripted series is being executive produced by Katie O’Connell Marsh and Nick Nantell for Boat Rocker; Headey and Tina Thor for Peephole Productions; and Gill.

Gill’s novel is described as the story of a young queer woman of colour realising her power in the world, both in spite of where she grew up and precisely because of where she grew up. Kashmiri Sikh writer Gill was born in Belfast and raised in Gurugram, Haryana in India.

Game of Thrones star Headey has a first-look deal in place with Boat Rocker through her prodco and stars in a pair of projects currently being produced under the company’s umbrella.

The actor and producer is set to star alongside Canada’s Stephan James in Beacon 23 for Spectrum Originals and AMC. She is also attached to voice a character and coproduce Boat Rocker’s animated adaptation of Scary Stories for Young Foxes.

The option deal for The Girl & the Goddess was brokered by Penelope Killick at David Higham Associates.

Boat Rocker Studios inked its first-look agreement with Peephole in November 2020. Most recently it signed a first-look deal with US producer Stephanie Langhoff and her newly launched production outfit High Tide Productions.
