Brownlow will serve as exec producer within UK-based Plimsoll’s natural history unit, reporting to the company’s chief creative officer of natural history and science Martha Holmes.

The producer and director joins Plimsoll after 28 years with the BBC, where he helped guide the creative vision for some of its most recognisable natural history projects.

In addition to working on the BBC’s Blue Planet II and Frozen Planet II, Brownlow has also more recently executive produced Eden: Untamed Planet (BBC Two/AMC Networks), Earth’s Tropical Islands (BBC/PBS) and a yet-to-be-announced 10-part wildlife series for Apple TV+.

“Mark is an inspired and respected storyteller who’s behind some of the most iconic natural-history programmes of our time, so it’s a huge win to bring him on board,” said Holmes.

“We’re eager to tap into his expertise and energy to create timely and distinct content that continues to astound and uplift audiences around the world.”

Brownlow added that he will bring his “big blue-chip innovation and storytelling experience to the mix and help broaden its ever growing, diverse and cutting-edge portfolio.”

Plimsoll, which was acquired by ITV Studios earlier this year, is currently in production on around 20 series including The Ascent with Alex Honnold and Great Migrations for National Geographic/Disney+. Its other credits include Super/Natural (National Geographic/Disney+), Animal (Netflix), The Women of 9/11 (ABC), Malika the Lion Queen (Fox), When Big Things Go Wrong (History) and Tiny World (Apple TV+).
