Blue Ant Media explores Ireland’s Wild Mountains as it reveals new factual slate

Ireland’s Wild Mountains from Crossing the Line Productions and RTÉ

Canada’s Blue Ant Media has unveiled a slate of original factual content for its global portfolio of channels and streaming brands, including documentary series Ireland’s Wild Mountains.

Coproduced by Crossing the Line Productions and RTÉ, the 2×43’/3×60’ title is a follow-up to Ireland’s Wild Islands. It reveals the wildlife and natural history that have shaped life in the Emerald Isle’s mountains over the past 10,000 years. Irish TV personality Eoin Warner returns to host the RTÉ version.

Other newly greenlit series include Space: The Ultimate Countdown (8×60’, Blue Ant Studios), which sees astronomists discuss mankind’s biggest achievements in space exploration, while Super Humans (8×60’, Blue Ant Studios) details extraordinary individuals such as motorbike stunt rider Evel Knievel and escapologist Houdini.

Scaling Oz (3×60’), from Adelaide-based Breakout Productions, meanwhile, exposes the misconceptions about Australian reptiles and Rise of the Swamp Cats (2×60’), from London’s DocYard TV and Arte France, documents previously unseen lion behaviour in Botswana.

Returning series include World’s Most Secret Places S2 (8×60’, Blue Ant Studios) and Aussie Snake Wranglers: Deadly Pursuit S3 (12×30’, Breakout Productions).

Alison Barrat, senior VP and head of content, global channels and streaming at Blue Ant Media, said: “Our latest greenlights of new and returning series offer a variety of content genres across science, history, and wildlife, bolstering our investment in original productions for our portfolio of brands.

“The line-up illustrates how we leverage Blue Ant’s integrated approach between our channels and rights businesses, allowing us to maximize the reach of our original commissions.”
