Binge commissions docu-comedy on Australian housing crisis from Wedge-Tail

SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream? is fronted by Mark Humphries

Foxtel’s streaming platform Binge has commissioned a docu-comedy project from Wedge-Tail Pictures delving into Australia’s housing crisis.

One-hour special SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream? will debut on July 21 on Binge and FOX8 on Foxtel.

It features comedian Mark Humphries on a personal quest to investigate why home ownership has become out of reach for many people in Australia. The special is executive produced and written by Wedge-Tail Pictures’ Craig Reucassel (The Chaser, Big Deal).

The show has received production investment from screen agencies Screen Australia and Screen NSW via its development fund, production finance fund and regional filming fund.

In a unique screen investment mix, the production has also been financed by state-funded housing developer Landcom and commercial property developer Henley Homes. Additional funding support has come from the Housing Industry Association and the City of Sydney.

Filming for SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream? is already underway and will feature locations from around the country, particularly regional Australia.

Binge/Foxtel head of unscripted originals Howard Myers-Rifai said: “The housing crisis is something we all experience, whether as renters or homeowners, and Mark’s journey provides a highly relevant and timely take on an issue that is affecting millions of Australians. We look forward to sharing this unique show with our audience, combining important conversations with much-needed laughter.”
