Billy Bob Thornton drama Landman renewed for second season on Paramount+

Billy Bob Thornton in Landman

Paramount+ has renewed its Billy Bob Thornton- and Demi Moore-led neo-western series Landman for a second season.

Created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and Christian Wallace and produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions, Landman is is a drama set within the world of oilfields in West Texas.

The renewal is unsurprising given that Landman has quickly become Paramount+’s best-performing original to date, according to Paramount Global. The series is also the most watched global premiere and the most watched finale of any series on Paramount+ so far.

In addition to Sheridan and Wallace, the show counts David C Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Thornton, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Stephen Kay among its executive producers.

It is based on a podcast called Boomtown from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly.

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president and CEO at Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said: “Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth.”
