Big Bang Theory heads to HBO Max

The Big Bang Theory concluded this May after 12 seasons

WarnerMedia’s forthcoming streaming service HBO Max has secured the rights to long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory as the content war between the big streamers continues to heat up.

The deal is the latest big-money acquisition of a classic comedy series by a major streamer and follows the news earlier today that all nine seasons of Seinfeld have been picked up by Netflix, which will lose fellow sitcom hits Friends and The Office to HBO Max and NBCUniversal’s forthcoming service respectively.

HBO Max will carry all 12 seasons of Warner Bros-produced hit The Big Bang Theory, which has aired on US broadcaster network CBS since 2007 and spawned spin-off series Young Sheldon. It concluded with a finale in May this year.

The deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, includes all 279 episodes, which will be available upon HBO Max’s launch in the US early next year. It also includes an extension of the existing cable deal for the show with WarnerMedia-owned TBS.
