Beyond Rights premium docs go surfing, investigate NZ dairy industry

Milked aims to reveal the reality behind the Kiwi dairy farming industry

London-based distributor Beyond Rights’ push into premium feature documentaries has seen it add surfing film Facing Monsters and investigative doc Milked to its slate.

Facing Monsters (1×90′), from Beyond Rights’ sister company Beyond West, Red Eye Productions and Veerhuis Pictures, follows enigmatic free surfer Kerby Brown as he pursues the ultimate ferocious and deadly ‘slab’ waves along the coast of his native Western Australia.

Milked (1×90′), meanwhile, is led by activist Chris Huriwai and exposes the alleged ‘whitewash’ of New Zealand’s multi-billion-dollar dairy industry and features interviews with the likes of Dr Jane Goodall. It is executive produced by Suzy Amis Cameron and directed by Amy Taylor from Ahimsa Films.

Beyond Rights, which was formed from the merger of Beyond Distribution and TCB Media Rights last year, said it currently has a “heightened focus” on premium factual content.

Connie Hodson, head of partnerships and business development at Beyond Rights, said: “With a wealth of new opportunities on linear channels and a constant demand from SVoD platforms for unique and powerful stories, told in-depth, we are confident that these two remarkable and memorable films will readily find new homes in the international marketplace this autumn.”
