Beta Film, WeKids in distribution pact

Patchwork Pals

Chinese producer and distributor WeKids has teamed up with Germany’s Beta Film to co-distribute children’s programming globally.

The first project under the deal will see WeKids take distribution rights to animated preschool series Patchwork Pals (52×4’) for China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the rest of Asia, as well as English-speaking Canada.

The property, which is part of Beta Film’s catalogue, follows a bunch of cuddly animals living on a patchwork blanket who solve any problem they encounter. The series was originally produced by German outfit Studio Film Bilder with SWR, supported by MFG Filmförderung Baden-Württemberg and MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung.

For season two, Studio Film Bilder will continue to produce with co-financing from WeKids, supported by MFG Filmförderung Baden-Württemberg. Beta Film and WeKids are already collaborating on distribution of the series in Asia, along with other shows including Boo Boom and Rusty.

“In WeKids we have found a partner who understands how to support and distribute children’s entertainment programmes on a very high level,” said Claudia Schmitt, VP of international sales and acquisition, kids’ and family entertainment, Beta Film.
