Beta Film looks to take France Télévisions’ Prison Island around the world

Prison Island comes from Michel Bussi

Beta Film in Germany has taken international distribution rights to the France 2 hostage thriller Prison Island.

The six-hour series was created and is co-written by author Michel Bussi. It is directed by Elsa Bennet and Hippolyte Dard, while the cast includes Déborah François, Margot Bancilhon and Pierre Perrier. Cinétévé is the producer.

Set on a peaceful island in Brittany that is turned into a prison, it follows events after a group of armed activists take the whole population hostage while their motives are kept secret.

Jérôme Vincendon, executive VP for French-speaking Europe at Beta Film, said the series “combines a captivating story with beautiful scenery and locations” and is “certainly a recipe to continue the recent success of Beta’s French slate.”

Prison Island joins other French series on Beta’s slate such as Thalie Images’ The Island of Thirty Coffins and crime drama Presumed Guilty.
