Beta acquires Minister prodco stake

Beta Nordic Studios (BNS), part of Jan Mojto’s Munich-based Beta Film, has bought a stake in Icelandic production company Sagafilm.

BNS has acquired 25% of the company responsible for forthcoming political drama The Minister. From writer Jónas Margeir Ingólfsson and starring Olafur Darri Olafsson, the show is one of several productions in the works at Sagafilm.

According to the companies, the deal will allow Sagafilm, which works across scripted and non-scripted content, to better access international markets for film and TV productions, both as a coproduction partner and line producer for foreign projects.

Founded in 2019, BNS focuses on local scripted content with an international appeal, leveraged via Beta Film’s international distribution network.

Sagafilm becomes the third company under the BNS umbrella, alongside Matti Halonen’s and Miikko Oikkonen‘s Finnish prodco Fisher King (Nymphs, Bordertown) and Dramacorp (Cryptid), the joint venture set up by Beta and veteran drama exec Patrick Nebout.

BNS CEO Martin Håkansson, who joins the board of directors of Sagafilm as part of the transaction, said: “We want to stress that each company within the BNS structure remains independent in order to create unique BNS-branded entertainment.”
