BET UK editorial and commissioning executive Cicelia Deane departs

Cicelia Deane, editorial and commissioning executive at Paramount Skydance-owned BET UK, has left the company.

Cicelia Deane

Deane joined BET in August 2021 and led editorial for its UK operations, having previously worked freelance on programmes such as The Rap Game for the BBC and ITV’s The Only Way is Essex.

Based in London, Deane oversaw all BET campaigns, content and local original commissions and, during her four-and-a-half-year tenure, greenlit shows such as The Evolution of Black British Music, Me & My Mum, Moments That Shaped Queer Black Britain and BET Streetz.

Deane executive produced docuseries Mission Motherland, made by Big Deal Films and launched last month on 5’s streaming service and the BET International YouTube channel in the UK.

She announced her departure from BET on LinkedIn, saying that she is now open to new work opportunities across commissioning, executive production, content strategy and creative leadership.

Deane said: “A chapter ends and another begins. I’m optimistic about what’s next.

“One of the most valuable aspects of this role has been working across such a wide range of creative talent and businesses. It’s reinforced for me how much can be achieved when strong ideas, clear strategy and collaborative working come together, regardless of platform or company size.

“This is legacy work, shining a spotlight on the richness of Black culture, and I’m incredibly proud of it.”
