Benelux dramas The Crash, 1985 find global homes after StudioCanal deals

The Crash comes from Big Blue

MIPTV: Broadcasters worldwide have been shopping at French producer-distributor StudioCanal, picking up two new thrillers from Benelux based on real-life events.

The Crash (5×60’) tells the story of one of the most controversial aviation disasters and biggest cover-ups in Dutch history, according to the French studio, which unveiled the sales here at MipTV in Cannes.

The show has been acquired by a long list of channels and platforms including SBS Australia, Canal+ France, Disney+ Belgium, BeTV Belgium, MagentaTV/Telekom Germany, Free TV Israel, Cellcom Israel, RTP Portugal and Cosmo Spain.

The drama is a Big Blue production for NPO1/KRO-NCRV and was created and written by Michael Leendertse (Turbulent Skies), directed by Lourens Blok (Boy 7), co-directed by Edson Da Conceicao (De Sterfshow) and produced by Fleur Winters (Heirs of the Night).

Meanwhile, crime thriller 1985 (8×52’) has been acquired by SBS Australia, Canal+ France, Free TV Israel, Filmin Portugal and Spain, TG4 in Ireland and Canal+ Czech Republic & Slovakia.

The series was written by Willem Wallyn, directed by Wouter Bouvijn and produced by Peter Bouckaert, and is the first drama to be commissioned by two Belgian public broadcasters, VRT and RTBF. It is produced by Belgian producer Eyeworks.
