A former co-president of production company York & Wilder, Shank has been charged with overseeing all development and programming, reporting to Steven M Engel, founder and president of Engel.

Shank is the showrunner and executive producer of Engel shows Lone Star Law and North Woods Law. He has produced more than 200 hours of content for Discovery and Animal Planet throughout his career.

Reporting to Shank will be new head of development Kara Smith, who has been at the company since 2014 and was a development executive on Alaska PD, which screens on A&E.

Meanwhile, Julia Jenkins has been named head of casting and talent, with previous credits on projects for History, TLC, Fox and Bravo.

“Kara and Julia bring depth and versatility that’s hard to find,” said Shank. “It’s exciting to be part of a team that can develop the high-calibre programming that Engel Entertainment is known for.”

In their new roles, Shank and his team are set to pitch projects including a design challenge show, a docu-soap about expats living in Lisbon, Portugal, and a factual show about US government agencies.
