Bell Media’s Transplant, CBC’s Sort Of grab top Canadian Screen Awards

Transplant was named best drama series

Bell Media medical procedural Transplant and CBC half-hour comedy Sort Of won top TV honours at the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards.

Produced by Sphere Media for Bell Media’s CTV network, Transplant was named Canada’s best drama series on Sunday night, fending off competition from Coroner, Moonshine, The North Water and Vikings.

The show won seven other awards, including best lead actor in a drama for Hamza Haq and best lead actress for Laurence Leboeuf.

Meanwhile, Sort Of, also produced under the Sphere Media banner, was named best comedy ahead of Letterkenny, Kim’s Convenience, Jann and Strays.

In the children’s content categories, Paw Patrol, which airs on TVOKids, won best preschool series, while best children’s series went to The Hardy Boys, produced by Lambur Productions for Corus Entertainment’s YTV. Sports competition series All-Round Champion won best children’s non-fiction series.

In the unscripted categories, Employable Me, which follows jobseekers aiming to prove their physical disabilities and neurological conditions should not be the deciding factor in their employment, won best factual series.

Best documentary programme went to Super Channel true crime doc Catching a Serial Killer: Bruce McArthur.

The Canadian Screen Awards is an annual awards ceremony celebrating the local television and film industry. It is run by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
