Belgian broadcaster VTM has commissioned a civilian version of Norwegian format The Box.

Created by Seefood TV for Norway’s TV 2, The Box places contestants in separate boxes, without knowing where they are or what to expect. When the doors to the boxes open, they find themselves in the middle of a challenge which they must figure out how to complete.

The original version features celebrities, but VTM’s adaptation will feature civilians. A civilian version for Sweden’s TV4 was announced last year, but VTM’s adaptation will air first later this year.

It will be presented by Belgian singer and Belgium’s Got Talent host Koen Wauters and former Belgian international footballer Wesley Sonck.

“The format has always been about testing how people respond when faced with the unknown and putting ordinary people at the heart of that experience adds a powerful new dimension,” said Aleksander Herresthal, creator and producer of The Box at Seefood TV.
