Belgian format Destination X marks the spot for RTL4 in the Netherlands

Destination X debuted in Belgium earlier this year

RTL4 in the Netherlands has ordered a local version of Belgian adventure-reality format Destination X.

The deal will take Destination X into its sixth territory. Originally commissioned by VTM in Belgium, the format has since been picked up by NBC in the US, the BBC in the UK, France’s M6 and Germany’s Prosieben.

Created by Geronimo (The Big Job Switch, Doctor Davy), Destination X debuted on VTM in February and is distributed globally by Be-Entertainment.

In the show, 10 contestants embark on a road trip with no idea of their destination. Once they’re on the innovative Destination X bus, reality is tweaked to mislead both the participants and the viewers. Information comes with clues designed to help the contestants decide if they can trust what they see.

At the end of each episode, the contestant who places their X on a map furthest away from the bus’s actual location has to leave the game, losing their shot at winning a cash prize.

“The team from RTL in the Netherlands immediately saw the potential of the format,” said Gepke Nederlof, MD of Be-Entertainment.

“We’re very proud to finally announce that we will partner with them on such an adventurous journey, and it’s extra special to see the Destination X bus travel so close to our own home.”
