The two London-based companies will partner with creative studio Framestore on the live-action/CGI drama, which is being adapted for the screen by playwright and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie creator Tom MacRae.

Currently in development as a returnable multi-episode series set in the UK, Beetle Boy is based on Leonard’s books Beetle Boy, Beetle Queen and Battle of the Beetles, which were optioned by Nevision.

The books, which have been published in more than 30 territories, follow a 15-year-old as he searches for his father with the assistance of unusual beetles.

The executive producers are Maya Leonard, Richard Tulk-Hart and Tony Wood for Buccaneer Media and Nigel Pickard and James Cabourne for Nevision.

Michelle Martin, head of television at Framestore, said: “As episodic projects continue to grow in scope, it’s always our aim to partner directly with content producers. That way we’re able to provide our expertise and become a key part of bringing stunning visuals to the screen.”
