Beano plucks ABC’s Rose

Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed is coming to CBBC

The commissioning editor for children’s television at the ABC in Australia is leaving to join Beano Studios in the UK.

Chris Rose will join the recently launched production arm of long-running UK children’s comic Beano in London as director of development and production.

Rose has spent the past five years down under at the children’s department of the ABC, arriving from UK-based Hit Entertainment in 2012 as VP of development and programming.

During his time at the ABC, Rose was responsible for the development, commissioning and execution of series including The Flamin’ Thongs, Kazoops and The Deep.

Prior to joining Hit in 2008, he had held acquisitions roles at the BBC during nearly a decade at the UK pubcaster.

At Beano Studios, Rose will be responsible for long-term projects across TV, film and theatre for both existing Beano characters and new IP, working with CEO Emma Scott.

He will work with Beano Studios’ development and writing teams to come up with new characters and reinvigorate Beano characters for a range of new platforms.

The firm’s first major television production, Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed, premieres on CBBC in the UK later this year.

“Chris shares our ambition to make Beano Studios an international force in the world of longform children’s storytelling, whether that’s for television, film, theatre or other platforms,” said Scott.

“He’s a big hitter with the right mix of experience and flair to take the Beano brand, its well-loved characters and brand new ones to a whole host of new audiences.”
