Beach House makes new hires

Singapore-based production company Beach House Pictures (BHP) has hired a former ActiveTV executive as its senior development producer.

Marc Checkley will be responsible for creating and producing original content at BHP’s children’s arm, Beach House Kids, and the newly formed Beach House Entertainment, having left his role as VP of development at ActiveTV earlier this year.

The producer has previously worked with regional broadcasters including A+E Networks Asia, Fox International Channels and TVNZ.

Checkley recently developed, co-directed and produced the 14-part lifestyle series The Food Detectives for MediaCorp, and he has produced, performed and directed on a variety of kids TV productions.

Meanwhile, BHP has hired Jim Ribbans as its head of business development as it targets international expansion. Ribbans will be responsible for developing new regional and global business partnerships across all of BHP’s content divisions. These include Beach House Pictures, Beach House Studios and subsidiary Beach House Pictures Taiwan.

Ribbans has more than 18 years of experience in television and has produced and executive produced travel, factual and branded entertainment content for companies such as Carlsberg, Samsung and Kia Motors at ESPN.

Productions in the pipeline across all of BHP’s divisions include “international blue-chip factual programmes, original kids’ animation/puppetry projects and a regional reality series,” according to its MD, Jocelyn Little.
