BBCWW, Lookout Point renew vows

MIPTV: BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has renewed and expanded its deal with drama coproduction outfit Lookout Point, the latter’s CEO Simon Vaughan has confirmed.

Their deal will continue for at least a further three years, and has evolved into a joint venture between the two companies under which they will develop original productions and coproduce third-party productions.

“Through the co-venture we are targeting opportunities where we can finance, coproduce and distribute productions. The emphasis of our slate is global British drama,” Vaughan said.

“There feels like a tremendous gap in the market where our partner-driven model allows us to be an executive producer and marketing force for independent productions. Unlike the US studios, we don’t need to own it all and our model is implicitly partner-friendly.”

BBCWW and Lookout Point have previously partnered on dramas including Ripper Street and Parade’s End, and their most recent copro is the BBC’s upcoming adaptation of Tolstoy’s War & Peace.

In recent weeks, Lookout Point projects have received 10 nominations for the upcoming Bafta TV Craft Awards later this month. In addition, Parade’s End won four Broadcasting Press Guild Awards and Best TV Drama at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards last month.
