BBCWW extends investment spree

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has made its second production company investment in a week by taking a stake in a prodco launched by David Glover and Mark Raphael.

Glover, previously head of specialist factual at Channel 4, launched unscripted prodco 72 Films with Dragonfly MD Mark Raphael earlier this year.

Glover left the UK terrestrial earlier this year to launch the indie and was replaced by John Hay, who reports to deputy chief creative officer and head of factual Ralph Lee.

BBCWW’s 15% stake in 72 Films comes just days after the UK pubcaster’s commercial arm took a 25% stake in House Productions, the new prodco launched by film and drama execs Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell.

The London-based firm is also being backed by Danny Cohen’s Access Entertainment and received additional investment and expertise from New York-based investor Laura Sloate.

BBCWW returned to investing in production companies in 2014 and has since taken stakes in producers including London-based Lookout Point and the factual arm of Red Planet Pictures as well as funding group Greenbird.
