Carolina Alckmin has been appointed as development producer for BBCWW in Brazil and will be responsible for developing new projects and formats for the national market.

She previously worked for TV Globo and, before that, had stints with production outfits such as O2, Tangerina and Maria Bonita Filmes.

The appointment follows a multi-year production agreement between BBCWW Latin America/US Hispanic and Endemol Shine Brazil, with the latter producing the BBC’s formats for free-to-air, pay TV and OTT operators in the country.

Alckmin will work with ESG in Brazil and reports to Anna Gordon, exec VP and MD of BBCWW Latin America/US Hispanic.

BBCWW has also appointed Luiz Eduardo Silva Soares from TV Record to support growing content sales in Brazil. Soares, who becomes digital sales co-ordinator, reports to Paula Teruko, BBCWW Brazil’s content sales manager.

“These changes to our São Paulo team reflect our commitment to meet the growing demand for premium British content in the region with a multiplatform strategy that allows us to deliver our programmes and branded content in innovative and engaging ways,” Gordon said.

BBCWW shows available in Brazil include Doctor Who, which airs on Syfy Brazil, as well as Sherlock and The Hunt, which are both available on Netflix. The latter also airs on Globo, which is also set to air BBC epic War and Peace.

BBCWW format remakes include Bake Off Brazil (Mão na Massa) and What Not to Wear (Esquadrão da Moda), which are both available on SBT.

In related news, BBCWW is partnering with social media service Snapchat to offer an exclusive series of Planet Earth II shows.

The content will be available on Snapchat’s Discover platform in the US and Canada, offering never-before-seen footage from the series a day before the show’s February 18 debut on BBC America in the US and the recently launched BBC Earth in Canada.

The content is produced by BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit and will include six exclusive episodes, each telling a new Planet Earth II story featuring new scenes that have been specifically crafted for Snapchat’s vertical mobile viewing experience.
