BBC2 orders Princess Diana drama

BBC2 is working with the UK’s Big Talk Productions and WME on a drama special about the impact of Princess Diana’s death.

Diana, Princess of Wales

Diana & I (1×90′) is being written by Jeremy Brock (The Last King of Scotland) and is set across the week that followed the Princess of Wales’ death on August 31, 1997.

Directed by Peter Cattaneo (The A Word), the show explores how Diana’s death affected society and examines the outpouring of emotion that ensued. Chris Rice and Lorenzo De Maio at WME are representing international rights.

Patrick Holland, controller of BBC2, said: “Diana’s death wasn’t just a tragedy for her family, the nation responded with a collective grief which is still remarkable 20 years on.

“Jeremy Brock’s emotionally layered drama engages with the lives of ordinary people, whose stories play out against this extraordinary outpouring of communal loss.”

In related news, BBC2 is also reviving Vic & Bob’s Big Night Out from comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

Vic & Bob’s Big Night Out, to be produced by BBC Studios, will be a reimagining of the original show that first aired in 1990.
