BBC Studios Showcase returns to London and announces new venue

BBC Studios Showcase returns to London

BBC Studios is moving its annual Showcase content and customer event to a new central London location for 2024.

The event is moving to 180 Studios, The Strand, and will take place from Monday February 26 to Tuesday February 27.

The invite-only event will see buyers from around the world attending during the week of the London TV Screenings.

Now in its 48th year, BBC Studios Showcase 2024 will feature content from the commercial arm of the UK pubcaster’s portfolio of production labels, production units and indie partners. Further details about BBC Studios Showcase will be announced in due course, BBC Studios said.

This year saw the event re-locate from Liverpool, where it had been held for nine years, to London’s Leicester Square.

The BBC’s Showcase began its life in the Old Ship in Brighton in 1976 when 25 European buyers squeezed into the old seafront hotel to watch classic BBC shows like Fawlty Towers, The Good Life and Doctor Who.

During the 1980s, the event moved around Sussex, Bournemouth, Edinburgh, Bristol, Stratford-Upon-Avon and Harrogate before returning to Brighton and then, in 2012, finding a home at Liverpool’s ACC. The editions in 2020 and 2021 were virtual due to the pandemic.

Rebecca Glashow, CEO of global distribution at BBC Studios said: “BBC Studios Showcase continues to be one of the most important moments in the content marketplace.

“We are excited to welcome our partners to discuss new ideas in development and present our upcoming slate filled with world-class on and off-screen talent. Having a multi-purpose space at 180 Studios provides us with the perfect setting for this year’s edition.”
