BBC Studios’ Science unit deals with Netflix, ZDF for Einstein and Solar System docs

Einstein and the Bomb is produced by BBC Studios’ Science Unit

Netflix has commissioned historical drama documentary film Einstein and the Bomb from BBC Studios.

Produced by BBC Studios Science Unit (The Anthrax Attacks), it explores the famous scientist Albert Einstein’s relationship with Hitler, Germany and the atom bomb.

Fleeing the Nazi persecution of Jews in his homeland, Einstein winds up in Norfolk, England, where he is forced to confront the impending atomic age.

The factual project stars Aidan McArdle (E=mc2) as Einstein. Executive producers are Andrew Cohen and James Van der Pool. It went live on Netflix over the weekend.

BBC Studios Science Unit has previously produced shows such as Our Universe, and The Surgeon’s Cut, for Netflix.

In other news, German pubcaster ZDF has also pre-bought a science-based series from BBC Studios.

The BBC Studios Science Unit’s forthcoming space series Solar System (working title) explores the amazing events unfolding among the planets and moons of the Solar System around us every day.

BBC Studios has a long-term partnership with ZDF to develop and coproduce content, including the recent drama The Famous Five based on the best-selling Enid Blyton books, alongside series from our BBC Studios Natural History Unit including Asia, and Mammals.
