BBC Studios’ Samantha Rosie joins Brown Bob Cymru as creative director

Former BBC Studios executive Samantha Rosie has been appointed creative director at Welsh production company Brown Bob Cymru.

She will head the Cardiff arm of London-based factual indie Brown Bob which was founded 10 years ago by Jacqueline Hewer and Nicki Gottlieb.

Rosie started her TV career as a researcher at Channel Nine in Australia. From 1992 to 2017, she worked at BBC Cymru Wales in roles including producer, series producer and executive producer.

Rosie joined BBC Studios in 2017, working as an executive producer for five years. There, she was part of the team that created a new factual entertainment department.

More recently she has worked with several Welsh indies in senior freelance roles, including Little Bird Films.

Her executive producer credits include shows such as Our Lives and The One Show (both BBC One), plus hiking series Weatherman Walking and consumer show X Ray (both BBC Wales).

Roise has also worked as a producer on The Wanted (BBC One daytime), The Curious House Guest (BBC Two) and 13 seasons of the 24/7 documentary strand for BBC Wales.

Hewer and Gottlieb said in a statement: “We are very excited to find someone of Sam’s calibre and commitment to the Welsh broadcasting industry to join our team.

“We are looking forward to making our mark with Brown Bob Cymru and establishing our company in the Welsh media landscape.”

Rosie said: “Brown Bob has a terrific track record of delivering high-quality programmes and there is huge potential here in Wales to grow even further, with the great creative production talent that we have in the country.”

Brown Bob Cymru already has 30 hours of confirmed productions and will work with BBC Wales, pubcaster S4C and commissioners from other terrestrial channels on local Welsh stories.

Brown Bob’s existing projects include Inside the Ambulance for UKTV’s W and The Secrets of the London Underground for sister channel Yesterday.
