BBC Studios launches BBC First as linear channel in Czech Republic, Slovakia

Thriller miniseries Six Four joins BBC First this month

BBC Studios has launched its British drama channel BBC First in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, making it available from today via telecoms operators T-Mobile and O2 in the Czech Republic and Slovak Telekom in Slovakia.

BBC First will be fully localised with Czech subtitles and joins other BBC channels such as BBC Earth and BBC News, which are already available in both countries.

The channel, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, offers original, critically acclaimed British drama.

The channel has been available as an SVoD service since November 2023 and today’s move marks the first time it will be accessible as a linear channel in these regions. It also comes on the eve of C21’s Content Warsaw, where the Central and Eastern European (CEE) TV industry will gather in Poland this week.

Highlights for BBC First in June include the four-part thriller Six Four, starring Kevin McKidd. Additionally, seasons one and two of Maigret, featuring Rowan Atkinson as the iconic French detective, and the first season of Hope Street will premiere this month.

“We are thrilled to witness the continuous growth and success of our global brand, BBC First, over the past decade,” said Bartosz Witak, general manager for CEE at BBC Studios. “I cannot envision a better way to commemorate this milestone than by expanding its reach to new audiences.”
