BBC Studios Digital Brands has partnered with Prince William and The Royal Foundation’s United for Wildlife to launch a docuseries about the work of rangers.

Guardians launched on the BBC Earth YouTube and social channels today, with further episodes of the six-part series released weekly.

It seeks to redefine understanding of rangers around the world and their critical work protecting nature in areas such as the snowy mountains of the Himalayas to the remote rainforests of Brazil.

The digital-first series features episodes of around 10 minutes with exclusive access and first-hand accounts of the lives of rangers and nature protectors as they urgently work to conserve biodiversity and ecosystems.

The series, coproduced with Ben Zand’s Zandland, was the brainchild of Prince William, who has voiced the trailer and individual episode introductions.

United for Wildlife was founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in 2014 to protect endangered species from the illegal wildlife trade.

Prince William said: “I’ve had the privilege of meeting a number of rangers throughout my life and have seen firsthand the vital work they do. Yet their stories are often overlooked or misunderstood.

“The reality is that protecting our natural world has become one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet. We need to understand and recognise nature’s guardians and the critical work they do.”

Jasmine Dawson, senior VP of digital at BBC Studios, said: “This series reflects BBC Studios Digital Brands’ commitment to making vital, global stories accessible to everyone, and it aligns with our mission to tell meaningful, purpose-driven stories that spark conversation.”
