BBC Studios begins search for London-based scripted chief to succeed Mark Linsey

BBC Studios Productions has launched a search for a new London-based managing director of scripted, as Mark Linsey focuses on growing the company’s scripted operations in LA.

Linsey, who has been based in LA since 2023, will remain in post during the recruitment process.

In his new role as BBC Studios Productions’ president of LA scripted, he will focus exclusively on expanding the company’s scripted footprint from Hollywood, building on scripted adaptations of UK titles, such as Ghosts for CBS.

C21 understands the incoming UK MD will be the main lead for BBC Studios Productions Scripted, with both the new MD and Linsey reporting directly to Zai Bennett, CEO and chief creative officer of BBC Studios Productions.

BBC Studios said the strategic move reflects its commitment to strengthening its scripted presence both in the UK and internationally.

The incoming MD will assume responsibility for BBC Studios’ drama and comedy production units, which is home to titles such as Death Valley, Trying, Inside No.9, Mammoth, Silent Witness, Father Brown and EastEnders.

BBC Studios also majority owns scripted labels including Clerkenwell Films, Baby Cow Productions, Firebird Pictures, House Productions, Lookout Point and Sid Gentle Films and has also invested in indies such as Boffola, VAL, Expectation and Turbine.

During Linsey’s time as MD of scripted, BBC Studios has delivered TV and film titles including Good Omens, Doctor Who, Sherwood, Baby Reindeer and Conclave.
