BBC recommissions comedy thriller Black Ops for second six-episode season

Black Ops was co-created by and stars Gbemisola Ikumelo and Akemnji Ndifornyen

ETVF: UK pubcaster the BBC has recommissioned comedy thriller series Black Ops for a second season of six episodes.

Produced by BBC Studios Comedy Productions and Mondo Deluxe for BBC One and iPlayer, Black Ops debuted its first season in May this year.

The renewal was announced by Jon Petrie, director of BBC Comedy, yesterday at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

The series was created by actor and writer Gbemisola Ikumelo (Famalam, Brain in Gear),  actor and producer Akemnji Ndifornyen (Famalam, The Queen’s Gambit) and writing duo Joe Tucker and Lloyd Woolf (Click and Collect, Witless). Ikumelo and Ndifornyen also star in the show.

Season one of Black Ops centres on two police community support officers (played by Ikumelo and Hammed Animashaun) who find themselves unwittingly thrust into the murky world of deep cover infiltration and a powerful criminal enterprise. The 6×30’ second season sees the pair land themselves in a new adventure.

Production on S2 will commence in 2024. Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios Productions, is exec producing. BBC Studios is distributing internationally.

“The first series of Black Ops had BBC viewers hooked with a perfect balance of big laughs and gripping plot. Gbemisola, Akemnji, Joe and Lloyd have created something special, and we look forward to seeing what Dom and Kay get up to next,” said Petrie.
