BBC, Netflix and Stephen Knight bring Peaky Blinders back for two more seasons

The new Peaky Blinders series will be set in a post-war Birmingham

The BBC and Netflix are teaming up with writer and creator Stephen Knight to bring the UK pubcaster’s period mob drama Peaky Blinders back for two new seasons.

Peaky Blinders will return with a story of a new generation of Shelbys, created by Knight, across two 6×60’ seasons.

Both will be produced by Banijay-owned Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, House of Guinness, Grantchester) and Garrison Drama (Peaky Blinders S1-6, the Peaky Blinders film) for BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and Netflix in the rest of the world.

The new stories will be set in Birmingham in 1953, as the battle to reconstruct the city out of the wreckage of the Second World War becomes a brutal contest.

Knight said: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, added: “This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago and it is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas. Steven has worked his magic once again and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham.”

Mona Qureshi for Netflix added: “There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham and to the next generation of the Shelby family.”

The executive producers are Knight, Cillian Murphy, Karen Wilson and Martin Haines for Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook for Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan and Danielle Scott Haughton for the BBC and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley for Netflix.
