BBC hires I May Destroy You producer

UK pubcaster the BBC’s comedy department has hired Tanya Qureshi, associate producer of Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You, as a commissioning editor.

Starting her role on March 22, Qureshi will be responsible for a slate of programmes and for developing her own portfolio of new shows.

Qureshi began her commissioning career at multichannel operator UKTV, primarily focusing on scripted comedy for Dave and Gold, where she exec produced sitcoms Undercover, The Rebel, Henry IX and Crackanory.

She went on to join Channel 4 as commissioning executive, working across a varied development slate, and was the commissioner on the second seasons of both The Windsors and Flowers.

Currently head of comedy at prodco Various Artists, Qureshi most recently served as associate producer on widely acclaimed BBC drama I May Destroy You and produced season two of C4 sitcom Dead Pixels.

Shane Allen, director of BBC Comedy commissioning, said: “Tanya joins on a producing high from having nurtured and delivered one of the most seminal shows of recent years. Her immaculate taste, insight, connections, wisdom and passion for comedy are matched by a funny bones personality.”
