BBC greenlights two new dramas set and filmed in Wales

The Witch Farm is written by Danny Robins

UK public service broadcaster the BBC has co-commissioned two new dramas with BBC Cymru Wales, podcast adaptation The Witch Farm and crime series Old Town Murders.

The former is a 4×60’ series produced by ITV Studios label Mammoth Screen (Towards Zero) for BBC One and streamer iPlayer.

Written by Danny Robins, it’s based on his original podcast series of the same name. Starring Gabrielle Creevy (The Guest) and Michael Socha (Showtrial), The Witch Farm tells the story of a couple who move to a remote farmhouse in Wales for a fresh start but encounter chilling ghostly disturbances.

Old Town Murders (6×60’), meanwhile, is produced by Nicola Shindler’s Quay Street Productions for BBC One and iPlayer. It stars Mark Lewis Jones (Baby Reindeer) and Steffan Rhodri (Steeltown Murders) as detective trying to solve murder mysteries in the seaside town of Tenby.

ITV Studios is handling worldwide distribution for both scripted projects. The Welsh commissions follow the BBC’s plans to increase content across the devolved nations.

Nick Andrews, head of commissioning, BBC Cymru Wales, said: “We’re heading into such a rich season of content for audiences in Wales – stories which resonate deeply here but will ricochet across the UK and beyond.

“We promised a slate of high impact scripted shows and across the next year we will be delivering on that promise. Our world class creatives are firing on all cylinders, producing outstanding work.”

Lindsay Salt, director, BBC Drama, said: “Following the recent success of Wales-made hit dramas The Other Bennet Sister and The Guest, we’re delighted to announce two new dramas both filmed and set in Wales.”
