BBC Children’s has appointed former The Walt Disney Company UK executive Tali Walters as its in-house genre lead for drama production.

Walters takes the role left vacant by Lucy Martin at the UK pubcaster’s children’s department and will join on March 15.

Since Martin’s departure, Spencer Campbell had stepped into the role on an interim basis at the unit, which is responsible for producing CBBC shows such as My Mum Tracy Beaker.

Most recently, Walters had been working on a global project at YouTube, which is pushing into originals for kids, and before that spent nine years at Disney working in various roles.

These saw her work on talent-led franchises, develop scripted content for Latin America and EMEA audiences and work as executive producer on international production Violetta.

Overseen by Helen Bullough, head of BBC Children’s productions, the in-house team also produces animated content including JoJo & Gran Gran for CBeebies.

BBC Children’s boss Patricia Hidalgo, who joined from WarnerMedia last year, recently discussed her vision for the department.

BBC Children’s head of acquisitions and animation Sarah Muller was recently promoted to head of commissioning and acquisitions for 7-12s.

Muller will take on some of the responsibilities of outgoing head of content Cheryl Taylor after she leaves next month.

Assuming Taylor’s other responsibilities will be a head of commissioning and acquisitions for 0-6s, who has yet to be appointed. In the interim, those responsibilities are being handled by CBeebies executive producer Michael Towner.
