BBC anchors second season of Werner Film, eOne’s Aussie drama The Newsreader

1980s-set newsroom drama The Newsreader

UK pubcaster the BBC has acquired the second season of Australian drama The Newsreader for BBC Two and iPlayer.

Created, written and produced by Michael Lucas (Offspring, Five Bedrooms) and directed by Emma Freeman (Interview with the Vampire, Stateless), the six-part second season will make its UK debut this fall.

Set in the 1980s, The Newsreader centres on the lives of journalists and crew within a TV newsroom. Season two takes place one year on from the events of the first run.

The series is produced for Australia’s ABC by Werner Film Productions and Entertainment One, with the latter distributing internationally.
