Bavaria names high-end streaming head

German prodco Bavaria Fiction has promoted from within to appoint its first head of high-end streaming content.

Nina Maag will be responsible for the development, funding and production of upmarket series targeted at streaming platforms. She is currently developing Orion, a reboot of the first ever German sci-fi series.

Maag has been an exec producer at Bavaria for the past two years, before which she spent four years as MD of Munich’s Construction Film. Prior to that, she was a producer at Barefoot Films, UFA Cinema and Ratpack Filmproduktion.

Maag reports to Bavaria MD Jan S Kaiser, who said: “Originals developed in Germany for global streamers, as well as non-linear fiction programmes in general, are becoming increasingly important in the production business. To reflect this important growth area alongside our core business of commissioned productions for the public broadcasters, we are now also creating the necessary structure to best facilitate this under Nina’s leadership.”

Maag added: “The demand for universal storylines developed in Germany is constantly growing. I’m very excited to further expand the cooperation with streamers and platforms for Bavaria Fiction and to produce high-end content with outstanding creatives in front of and behind the camera for a worldwide audience.”
