Munich studio Leonine has expanded its production division with the appointment of Bavaria Fiction’s chief creative officer, Oliver Vogel, as MD of its subsidiary W&B Television.

Vogel will take up the role on February 1 next year and will report to the co-founders and chief production officers of Leonine, Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann.

He will focus on the development, acquisition and production of television projects for the German and international markets.

Vogel has spent the past 12 years working as a producer at Bavaria Fiction and has been chief creative officer there since 2017, responsible for series such as Sky’s big-budget remake of Das Boot.

Leonine was formed in 2019 from the merger of Tele München Group, Universum Film, i&u TV and Wiedemann & Berg Film. W&B TV joined the group earlier this year after being acquired from Endemol Shine Group and the company’s founders, Wiedemann and Berg.

Wiedemann and Berg, producers of Oscar-winning film The Lives of Others, set up W&B TV as a joint venture with Endemol in 2009.

Berg said: “Oliver Vogel is an outstanding producer and manager. He stands for an enormous range of successful projects of great quality.”

Wiedemann added: “Our strengths complement each other perfectly. Together, the cooperation of the various Leonine production companies in the field of fiction will be even more closely intertwined and hopefully bring many exciting projects to life.”
