Bavaria Fiction hires Sky exec in rejig

German production company Bavaria Fiction is reorganising its top management, with Marcus Ammon joining the company from Sky Deutschland as MD of content.

Long-time overall joint MD Jan S Kaiser will become MD of production and finance once Ammon arrives in the autumn, while his fellow joint MD, Manfred Haus-Pflüger, will leave the company at the end of the financial year after five years.

Ammon will assume responsibility for the content of all Bavaria Fiction’s productions and projects. In particular, he will focus on the development, acquisition and exploitation of TV, streaming and film programmes, including casting, as well as PR and marketing.

As MD of production and finance, Kaiser takes charge of commercial and operational processes at Bavaria Fiction and in this function is also responsible for contractual matters and taxes.

The moves follow the recent appointment of Nina Maag in the newly created position of head of high-end streaming content.

She will now also become part of the creative board, which will begin its work when Ammon takes up his role. The board will coordinate all of Bavaria Fiction’s programme development and exploitation activities. More members of the board will be named in due course.

At Sky Deutschland, Ammon was most recently senior VP of original production. He was responsible for the development and expansion of in-house production and, as a representative of Sky Studios, for the development and production of Sky Originals including Babylon Berlin, Das Boot and Pagan Peak.

Before joining Sky, Ammon was MD of MGM Networks in Germany from 2003 to 2009. From 1999 to 2002 he worked for Universal Studios Networks Germany as head of programming, responsible for programme acquisition and planning for channels 13th Street and Studio Universal.
