Banijay format Survivor set to return to India on Zee Tamil

Survivor first aired in 1997

General entertainment network Zee Tamil in India has commissioned a reboot of classic reality format Survivor, almost 10 years after it last aired in the country.

The format, which has been produced in more than 40 territories since it debuted in 1997, will be produced by Banijay Asia for Zee’s OTT platform Zee5.

Survivor India marks the 48th iteration of the show, which is distributed by Banijay, and follows the version that aired for one season in India on Star Plus in 2012.

More recently, Globo relaunched Survivor (No Limite) in Brazil after 12 years off air in the region, featuring a cast of previous Big Brother Brazil contestants, while the show aired its 40th season last year on CBS in the US.

The format tests the spirit of a group of people who are marooned with little more than the clothes on their backs and their own cunning. As they catch their own food, build their own shelter and order their own society, castaways must compete in increasingly difficult tests of strategy and guile.
