The Once Upon a Time franchise began on French TV in 1978

MIPCOM: Kids edutainment franchise Once Upon a Time has been acquired by buyers across Western and Eastern Europe, Canada and Asia from Banijay Kids & Family.

The sales arm of content production and distribution giant Banijay Entertainment has licensed the latest instalment, called Once Upon a Time… The Objects (78×7′), to Puls 2’s Puls Kids in Poland, Turkuvaz Media Group’s children’s channel Minika GO in Turkey, TFO in Canada and Radio Television Hong Kong.

Earlier episodes have been picked up by AMC Networks International Central and Northern Europe, which has taken seasons three (Life) and seven (Planet Earth) for several Eastern European territories, while SF Studios has licensed S3 for Norway and Sweden.

Once Upon a Time… The Objects, a coproduction by French prodcos Samka and Procidis, was unveiled in Cannes in 2023, when it was pre-bought by Germany’s ZDF. The series was also sold to France Télévisions, Israel’s Hot, RTS in Switzerland and TV5 Monde.

Once Upon a Time… The Objects teaches children about everyday objects, 78 of them in total, with the main character, Maestro, giving kids the opportunity to discover different fields of knowledge and understand how the objects have played a role in the history of humankind.

The original show was created by Albert Barillé in 1978 and has been broadcast regularly in France ever since.
