Banijay Iberia’s Cuarzo Producciones to produce new Spanish version of Survivor

L-R: Hosts Carlos Sobera, Laura Madrueño, Jorge Javier Vázquez and Sandra Barneda

Mediaset España-owned Telecinco has ordered a new Spanish version of reality-adventure series Survivor, to be produced by Cuarzo Producciones (Temptation Island), part of Banijay Iberia.

Filmed in Honduras, Central America, the series will be presented by Jorge Javier Vázquez, Carlos Sobera, Sandra Barneda, and Laura Madrueño.

Mediaset’s SVoD platform Mitele Plus, meanwhile, will stream new companion show ¿Quién dijo quiero ir a Supervivientes? (Who Would You Like to be a Survivor?). It will feature daily updates and all the latest news from the competing tribes.

Survivor will see 17 celebrity contestants leap from a helicopter and face over 150 challenges in an idyllic tropical setting. A cash prize of €200,000 (US$218,000) is at stake, with famous faces confirmed to take part including Ángel Cristo Jr, Arancha del Sol, Arkano, Aurah Ruiz and Blanca Manchón.

Banijay-owned format Survivor launched in 1997 and has now been adapted across 50 territories. It has previously screened in Spain on various channels including Antena 3, now-defunct digital channel laSiete and Telecinco.

Lucas Green, chief commercial officer, operations, at Banijay, said: “Survivor is one of Banijay’s biggest and most travelled IPs, which has enjoyed success in Spain for many years.

“We are delighted Cuarzo Producciones will be producing the show, bringing its unrivalled expertise at creating hugely successful, world-class entertainment to this iconic format.”

Juan Ramón Gonzalo, director at Cuarzo Producciones, added: “Cuarzo Producciones is renowned for daring casting, impeccable productions and formats full of surprises, and we will be bringing these qualities to our first Survivor production.”
