Banijay Benelux grows scripted portfolio in new partnership with prodco Topkapi

Topkapi productions include Turbulent Skies, Close and Another Round

The Benelux branch of European production giant Banijay has struck a partnership with Dutch prodco Topkapi to increase its scripted portfolio in the region.

Banijay Benelux said the collaboration with Amsterdam-based scripted specialists Topkapi will help drive further development and copro opportunities in the drama space.

Founded in 1994, Topkapi has more than 100 titles in its catalogue, including aviation drama series Turbulent Skies and domestic drama The Terrible Eighties.

Creatively and business-led by Laurette Schillings, Arnold Heslenfeld and Frans van Gestel, the international entity has been involved in 50 international coproductions. Its other offerings include Academy Award and Bafta-winning film Another Round, and Close.

The deal will see it engage in further coproductions with Banijay’s international collection of production companies and distribution arm.

“The clout of Banijay’s wider sales and distribution arm allows us to bring our new titles and catalogue to the attention of parties outside the Netherlands,” said van Gestel, producer at Topkapi.

Peter Lubbers, CEO of Banijay Benelux , added: “The label is a perfect fit for our family. Topkapi has an impressive global creative network that fits seamlessly with our coproduction ambitions beyond our own national borders.”

Banijay Benelux’s scripted portfolio via NL Film includes Penoza, Modern Love, Van der Valk and Commandos, and, with EndemolShine Scripted, Bonnie & Clyde, Roombeek and daily drama GTST.
