Banijay Asia adapts reality competition The Fifty for JioHotstar and Colors TV in India

Reality format The Fifty

JioHotstar and Colors TV in India have commissioned a local version of French reality format The Fifty.

European production giant Banijay will produce the Indian version through its Banijay Asia arm and the show is due to launch on February 1.

Originally created by French unscripted label B Prod, the latest commission marks the format’s fifth international adaptation.

Set within a grand house, The Fifty sees 50 reality TV stars face the challenges of a mysterious Game Master, hidden behind a Lion mask.

As alliances form and friendships are tested, contestants compete to grow a shared jackpot, with eliminations decided by the players themselves.

In a final twist, the life-changing cash prize is awarded not to the winner but to one of their registered followers, selected via the show’s app.

Lucas Green, chief content officer, operations at Banijay Entertainment, said: “Since launching in France in 2022, The Fifty has proven its global strength, landing in three territories and delivering consistently strong performances across markets and platforms. Its scale, intensity and ability to engage audiences makes India a natural next step in the format’s international evolution.”

Based on B Prod’s hit Les Cinquante, The Fifty airs in France on M6 and recently completed its fourth season. Internationally, a Polish adaptation launched on Amazon Prime Video in 2025, while in Germany the format debuted at number one on Prime Video.

Telemundo greenlit a second run of its version from EndemolShine Boomdog after it became the network’s most watched programme in the US Hispanic market.
