Bakish set for Viacom top job

Viacom is reportedly poised to name Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Viacom International Media Networks, as its new CEO.

Bakish is the frontrunner to take over from Tom Dooley, interim CEO of the US media conglomerate, when he leaves the company in mid-November, according to US reports.

Dooley was promoted to replace president and CEO Philippe Dauman in August, following the latter’s long-running legal stand-off with the company’s controlling Redstone family.

Should Bakish get the role, it would see the Viacom veteran take on responsibility for the media group’s assets such as MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Paramount Pictures and UK net Channel 5.

The reports also suggest Viacom is still exploring the possibility of a re-merger with CBS Corp, with the Redstones also owning the latter media giant.
