Bake Off rises in Uruguay

The Great British Bake Off on the UK’s Channel 4

Uruguay’s Canal 4 will air a local version of UK format The Great British Bake Off in the second half of this year.

The baking competition is the latest global format to be adapted by the channel after Banijay’s Dinner With Mom, ViacomCBS’s PH Uruguay and Ktz Entertainment Argentina’s Los 8 escalones.

The show features a group of bakers competing in a series of weekly challenges to decide who is the best baker in the land, with one contestant being sent home each week.

The UK’s BBC Studios distributes the Love Productions format, which began airing in the UK in 2010 on the BBC before moving to Channel 4 in 2017.

The Uruguayan version, which is currently in pre-production, will be the second Lat Am edition of the format after Brazil aired its own version in 2015. More recently, Amazon Prime in Spain ordered a local adaptation.

Uruguay’s Metrópolis Films will handle production.
